If you’re not familiar with WordPress, you might like some help with adding your first excerpt so I’ll start with the basics and guide you through step by step.
1. Click on the Dashboard

2. Click to add a new post

3. Position your cursor in the text box where you’d like your photo to appear, then click the ‘Upload/Insert’ media icon

4. Click the ‘From URL’ tab then, in a separate browser tab, go back to your original post to select an image. Right-click on it. Click ‘Copy image URL’ then return to the ‘Add Image’ form and paste the link in the first box. Don’t worry if it’s a long string of letters and numbers. Give your photo a title, and a caption if you like.

5. Go back to your original post and click in the web address bar to highlight the page URL then right-click, copy and bring it back to paste in the last box of the ‘Add Image’ form. Click the alignment button to position the photo within your post and ‘Insert into post’.

6. Almost there. Now you need a sentence and a link directing readers to the original post to continue reading and leave their comments on your blog. Type your sentence and highlight an appropriate word or phrase.

7. Click the ‘Add link’ icon – it looks like a small chain. You should be able to paste the link to your original post directly into both of the boxes provided unless you copied something else after adding your image. If the link has disappeared, see step 5.

Tick the ‘Open Link in New Window’ tab and you’ve now got two links back to your page – one from the photo and one in the text
8. Now all you need are some categories and tags to help people find your posts. Scroll down the Categories box and choose the most appropriate overall categories, including the letter your post relates to.
9. You can be more specific in the tags. You have to type these in yourself and separate them with commas. Don’t go overboard or you’ll just confuse the search engines!

10. Proofread or use the spellcheck (the ABC button) then press ‘publish’ and relax. Go and have a cup of tea. And a biscuit – you deserve it!
